Fellowships

The State of Illinois offers several fellowship programs, providing valuable opportunities for recent graduates and law students to gain hands-on experience in government and public service.

  • James H. Dunn Fellowship: This fellowship provides recent college graduates with a unique opportunity to experience the operations of state government for one year. Applicants must have completed a bachelor's or higher graduate degree within 18 months prior to the program's start. They should demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement.
  • Edward Coles Fellowship: This fellowship is designed for second- and third-year law students interested in civil rights and administrative law. It offers hands-on experience with the Illinois Human Rights Commission. Coles Fellows assist with legal research, case analysis, and participate in public hearings and outreach events. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited law school and have completed at least one year of legal research and writing coursework.
